Reminder: 30 minute Blackboard downtime tonight

14 Jan 2022

In preparation for the upcoming exam period, we are increasing Blackboard capacity to accommodate the anticipated higher volume of student and staff access.

What is happening?

Blackboard will be upscaled to handle a higher number of concurrent users (up to 8,000 students taking exams at the same time with another 2,000 background users).

This work is routine and has also been applied to Blackboard in previous exam periods.

Who will be affected?

The upgrade will involve a short downtime, during which neither staff nor students will be able to access Blackboard or associated tools such as Turnitin.

When is this happening?

The temporary capacity increase is scheduled to take place between Friday 14 January 10pm to 2am on Saturday 15 January 2022. Whilst we expect the upgrade to take only a few minutes the downtime may take up to 30 minutes.
