Last chance to have your say on USS pensions

13 Jan 2022

USS consultation ends this Monday, 17 January – have your say and use the modelling tool to see how changes will impact you

A reminder to affected colleagues that the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) consultation ends on Monday, 17 January.

Members – and colleagues who are eligible to be members – can have their say on changes to the scheme.

Members can also use a modelling tool on the USS consultation website to see what retirement funds they are building for the future.

A modelling tool for staff who have joined since April 2021 and those who are eligible to be members will also be available shortly.

The consultation – which closes at 5pm on Monday, 17 January 2022 – allows all affected employees to give their views on proposed changes to USS, most of which would take effect from 1 April 2022, if implemented. Any views you give via the consultation website will be anonymous.

Please do give your feedback – an affordable, sustainable pension for our valued colleagues is important to us and we need your input to achieve this.

Our University is one of 340 USS employers who have worked tirelessly for months on an alternative proposal now accepted by the USS Trustee, determined to secure a scheme that provides retirement benefits, is affordable to all members and remains sustainable for the future.

It is important to remember that your pension built up to date is secure and won’t be changed.

This consultation seeks comments from you on:

  • the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC)’s recommended package of benefit changes and;
  • the alternative contribution rates which will take effect from 1 April 2022 if the changes recommended by the JNC are not implemented before then.

All responses received during the consultation period will be considered before any final decision is made and implemented. The final decision will be communicated to you in February 2022 and changes will be made no earlier than 1 April 2022.
