Our University is celebrating triple success at the inaugural Pearson HE Innovate Awards.

Dr Jennifer O’Brien, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Senior Lecturer of Human Geography, won the award for the most innovative approach to developing employability skills for her University College for Interdisciplinary Learning (UCIL) course, Creating a sustainable world.

She said: “Creating a Sustainable World is a partnership between students, scholars, activists, policy makers, change makers – a real testimony of the University of Manchester’s drive and determination to empower and equip our students to make a difference for sustainable development.

“Our University Living Lab brokers applied research between students and organisations, it is making the world a better place whilst enhancing our students’ employability.  It is an absolute honour to have our impact recognised.”

Professor of Legal Education, Claire McGourlay also came joint third in the same category for the Justice Hub, where our students learn while working to help our local community, while our Library Peer Support team were shortlisted.

Pearson’s Senior Vice President, International Higher Education, Marlene Olsavsky said: “Covid has forced UK universities to create new and inventive ways of working, teaching and supporting students. The quality we’ve seen across the hundred plus submissions received for our Awards demonstrates how UK universities are more than capable of meeting this challenge.”

Pearson provides high quality, digital content and learning experiences, as well as assessments and qualifications that help people build their skills in nearly 200 countries.

The awards showcase the breadth of innovation going on every day in UK universities, from making learning as engaging as possible, to connecting with as wide and diverse an audience as possible, to ensuring students graduate equipped with the workforce skills they need to succeed in life.
