Issues accessing some University services - resolved

15 Apr 2021

Further updates on service issues

Update 9 (10.25am, 16 April)

We now believe all of the previously mentioned issues are resolved.

Any residents who are having problems with internet in their halls should report these directly to Hornet.

Anyone with other IT issues should contact the IT Support Centre.

Thank you for bearing with us while colleagues from all across IT Services worked to fix the issues.

Update 8 (8.45am, 16 April)

As of yesterday evening, we now believe that all network issues in Weston Hall and Unsworth Park are fixed.

Any residents who are having problems with internet in their halls should report these directly to Hornet.

Update 7 (2.55pm, 15 April)

Services which were affected by earlier issues (including the IT Support Portal, GlobalProtect, Duo, MyView, Listserv and others) are now returning; these issues were unrelated to the connectivity issues which happened on Monday night.

However, residents in Unsworth Park and Weston Hall are still reporting issues connecting to the wired (ethernet) network, so this investigation continues as a high priority.

Update 6 (11.45am, 15 April)

We're investigating issues involving login to multiple University systems including Duo, GlobalProtect, MyView, the IT Support Portal, Remote cluster PC access, external email and more. This is under urgent investigation.

Update 5 (10.25am, 15 April)

Full network access has been restored in Pankhurst hall of residence.

Wi-Fi access has been restored across campus.

We have colleagues back onsite working on the wired network issues in Weston Hall and Unsworth Park.

Still having issues?

  • If you're in halls of residence, and are experiencing any connectivity issues (aside from the known issues with wired connectivity in Weston Hall and Unsworth Park), please report this to Hornet.
  • If you're elsewhere, or are having any other IT issues, please contact the IT Support Centre

Update 4 (1.45pm, 14 April)

My Manchester for staff and students is returning to service and people are now logging in again. This includes associated services such as eProg, Training Catalogue, Timesheets, Costings and Project Finance. We’ll post an update when this has been officially confirmed as resolved. If you're still experiencing issues accessing these services, you may need to clear the cache in your web browser, and/or use another web browser.

Most of the Wi-Fi service has returned, with the exception of one access point in Whitworth Hall, and an unrelated hardware issue in Pankhurst hall of residence which is causing a loss of Wi-Fi service. Engineers have been called out to fix this.

Issues with wired internet access in halls of residence (mainly affecting Unsworth Park and Weston Hall) are still ongoing, and teams from across IT Services continue to work on this to get our students back online.

Update 3 (11.15am, 14 April)

Work continues to restore affected services. Most of the affected Wi-Fi access points have been restored to service with a small number left to complete.

We understand the impact this has on our staff and students, and these issues are being treated with the utmost urgency as we work to get our staff and students connected to the services they need.

Update 2 (9.45am, 14 April)

The list of services currently experiencing problems are:

  • My Manchester for staff and students (and associated services such as eProg, Training Catalogue, Timesheets, Costings, Project Finance)
  • Some Wi-Fi access points in some University buildings
  • Wired (ethernet) connectivity problems in Unsworth Park and Weston Hall.

Update 1 (8.10am, 14 April)

Work continues on restoring My Manchester and associated services this morning - as soon as we have any more information (including a time to resolution), we'll post it here.

Original message (12.40pm, 13 April)
