Major roadworks to start on Great Ancoats Street

09 Jan 2020

The investment project will take around 12 months to complete and work starts on Sunday, 12 January 2020

Great Ancoats Street roadworks

Manchester City Council have completed the preparatory work and main work to Great Ancoats Street will begin on Sunday, 12 January 2020. This will involve lane closures at all times during certain phases of the works.

Advice for drivers

Lane closures, reducing the capacity of the road, will be in place at all times during these works. Details of the specific closure locations will be shown on the TfGM website once works have commenced.

Road users travelling to and from the north and east of the city centre should use Alan Turing Way as an alternative route to avoid delays.

Arriving and departing the city centre via an alternative route may improve your journey time. Rochdale Road, Ashton New Road and Ashton Old Road are potential options. Check back for weekly updates on journey times and the quickest routes.

City centre through traffic should use Trinity Way instead of Mancunian Way to avoid other works at the Princess Road roundabout.

If it’s necessary to travel along Great Ancoats Street then the best times to avoid severe delays are before 7am, between 10am and 3pm and after 7pm.

Alternative travel options

Avoid the traffic and use public transport where possible. Plan your journey via public transport.
