The role and impact of new technologies on re school childrens language development and outcomes

Description

Ethics ref: 13932

My name is Luca, I'm part of the Cognitive Robotics Lab form the Department of Computer science.

Together with the Cognitive Development Lab from the University of Salford, we designed a child-friendly robot experiment that will allow us to compare how different robots, assuming a different role with respect to the child, can foster the learning of unknown novel words. The aim is to assess how the use of a robot can impact early language learning with preschool children.

The target of the study are children aged between 3.5 and 5 years old (3.5 so that also children that will turn 4 shortly can be candidates for the study). Ideally, English should be the first language spoken by the child (it’s ok if they are also exposed to other languages).

We are in the recruitment phase, and we ask for help from anyone who has a child (or knows a parent with a child) who might enjoy taking part in our study.

We’d be happy to send you more information about it. Here’s a link to a short video with our robot advertising the experiment. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u4wQpMQ2_f7Cc8oiUP7wcrBW8QDIUdOa/view?usp=sharing
