Description

MMU study

Volunteers Wanted

STUDY OVERVIEW

Prosthetic rehabilitation is where part of face (i.e. ear, nose) is rehabilitated with a facial prosthesis made from a silicone rubber which is colour matched to skin. The longevity of the material is relatively short and dependant where you live globally.  As a research team we are looking to develop new materials that colour match skin that can help within this field.

STUDY PROCESS

You will be required to attend the laboratory for two sessions:

  • Three facial skin images of your forehead cheek, and neck by a spectrophotometer and an Artec scanner will be obtained. This procedure is a similar device used in the cosmetics industry.
  • A silicone swatch will be colour matched to your skin, and then evaluated by researchers working in colour science and reconstructive science.

CAN I TAKE PART?

Inclusion Criteria:

We are looking for participants who are not having prosthetic rehabilitation from all ethnic backgrounds over the age of 18yrs.

Exclusion Criteria:

You must not be sensitive to flashing/strobe lighting or have any existing dermatological conditions.
