PSLT e-bulletin introduction from Lizzy Langton

This week, Lizzy Langton, our new Head of School Finance introduces the e-bulletin

I am delighted to be joining AMBS as Head of School Finance. By way of introduction, I have been at the University for 26 years, having first joined what was then the Faculty of Social Science and Law, pre-merger, which included the Department of Accounting and Finance.

Over the years I have worked across several areas of the University, including as Head of Finance for SoSS, SEED and SALC, so AMBS was the one remaining School to complete the set! I have also spent time as Head of Research Finance for Humanities, which gave me a particular appreciation of the opportunities and challenges surrounding research funding, grant management, and the wider academic environment.

I studied Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Southampton, where I subsequently worked whilst completing my Accountancy training.  It was also there that I met my husband, an historian who is now Head of Religions and Theology in SALC. Between us, we probably spend too much time discussing University life from both academic and Professional Services perspectives, but I hope that gives me a strong appreciation of the realities, pressures, and ambitions that shape academic work.

My role, and that of my team, is to support and facilitate the School’s various activities, while also helping colleagues navigate the various financial and regulatory frameworks within which the University operates.
