School Executive e-bulletin introduction from Chris Garnett
17 Apr 2026
This week, Chris Garnett, Director of Partnerships and Head of the Postgraduate Careers Service, introduces the e-bulletin.
Welcome to the latest e-bulletin.
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and are enjoying the longer days and slightly better weather. Spring is my favourite time of year, as we have all the best months in front of us and so much to look forward to. We also have a flurry of public holidays, and it’s really nice to have time away from work when everyone else is off as well — it makes for a much more relaxing break. That being said, I know from talking to colleagues that this is also a very busy time of year for all of us, and the shorter weeks certainly add to the intensity of our working week.
Since I last wrote for the e-bulletin, I’ve been really pleased with the responses I’ve had from colleagues who want to meet to learn more about our evolving partnerships strategy. I mentioned at the time that we had a group of MBA candidates looking at this as part of their MBA project, and having now received their final report, we are working through their recommendations. We had high expectations, and the students have exceeded them. They also presented to the School Advisory Board and the Strategic Partnerships Committee, and everyone has been really impressed by their professionalism and commitment to the School. We are very fortunate to have such amazing students around us, and it has been a privilege to work with them. We will look to showcase their work in a future update.
This week, I was also fortunate to attend an Executive Education dinner with one of our key partners. It was really nice to connect with colleagues, old and new. The professionalism with which we deliver these activities is fantastic, and huge credit goes to the whole team. It was also nice to be reminded how much it means to our delegates to be engaging with the School — they really cherish the opportunity, and you can see how much they value the support our colleagues consistently provide.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues in the Postgraduate Careers Service. I remain Head of the Service until we find my successor, and the past year has been a turbulent one for the team, with the addition of the MBA projects to our service and a challenging job market. The whole team has been fantastic in meeting these challenges, and one year after we took over the project cycle, we have successfully delivered all three MBA projects while also taking on new MSc dissertation projects — all while maintaining our usual high standards of careers support for our postgraduate students. Like all our colleagues, they are a credit to the School.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Chris
