Hello, I'm Anna Goatman, Director of Teaching and Learning and when I took over this role, I noticed that there was a real gap in terms of people being able to enhance and develop their teaching beyond some of the basic and formal training that they got through the HNAP programme. And I'm really keen to make sure that we adjust the culture within the School in line with the ambitions of Manchester 2035 - to really put teaching at the forefront, and provide opportunities to support teaching and learning in a really proactive way - so that we can ensure that we deliver the best possible student experience but also a really good staff experience when it comes to the delivery of teaching and learning.
Hi, I'm Ali Owrak. I'm the Director for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation at AMBS. We have spent the last 12 months developing this centre by working with universities across the US, looking at best practice, bringing that on board and trying to connect it with our needs within AMBS and aligning it to the University's overall 2035 strategy.
So if you're interested in working with our centre, there are a number of initiatives that we offer. First of all, if you particularly are interested in enhancing your teaching delivery or your course unit or your assessment where it's a place to come and visit, we can offer one-on-one consultation. It's very informal and it's very private. If you're interested in enhancing a programme or a unit that's taught across a number of colleagues, then we can facilitate a workshop that will enable you to enhance the practice and deliver an approach to your particular unit.
There are other opportunities as well. We have a number of student partners working within the centre. What they're currently doing is sandboxing a lot of ideas with the use of tech within education. So, we're developing and building use cases. If you're interested in enhancing your practice you're welcome to come in, look at the work that we're doing and if something resonates with you and you think that practice will lend itself to your particular course unit, then we will help you to embed that in some way.
Also, if you're thinking that you want our student partners to support you in the development of your unit or your approach to your assessment, or whether you just want someone to come and secretly shop at your lecture to provide you with some feedback, we can organise that also long-term. The centre is there to be a catalyst for change in teaching and to really enhance the way we value good practice in teaching and make it really visible. That's our intended goal and direction for the future.
