Managing data during an office move

During an office move important information can be lost or damaged and preparations should be made in advance to protect it.  Where personal data is involved, if it is mistakenly left behind or mislaid, it can cause potential harm and distress to the individuals affected, and could result in a fine for the University. The Information Commissioner’s Office (the UK data protection regulator) can and have issued fines to organisations for failing to protect personal data during office moves. The Information Governance Office Moves flowchart and guidance document will help staff plan the safe and secure transfer of data during an office move.
