Announcement of JRRI transformation project

28 Apr 2026

Supporting collaborative, interdisciplinary research which draws on the University's exceptional range and depth of collections.

The John Rylands Library

The M2035 strategy offers opportunities to further support collaborative, interdisciplinary research which draws on the University's exceptional range and depth of collections.

In light of this opportunity, a new expanded role, Academic Lead for Research Partnerships (Special, Scientific and Cultural Collections), will absorb the work currently done at JRRI, but will also work across our other collections with the University's Collections teams.

The new post will be part of the Creative Manchester research platform, and will focus on co-ordinating innovative and impactful research, and on the development of internal and external networks which contribute to 'Activating Collections' as a key University-wide research challenge.

We also wish to thank colleagues at JRRIL whose work has contributed to shaping this new post, which will be advertised next month, and will commence on Tuesday 1 September.
