The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures invites you to join us for Professor Steven Pierce’s Inaugural Lecture.

Professor Pierce will discuss the topic of ‘The Fetishistic State – Genealogies of Law in Northern Nigeria’ . He will be joined by guest speaker Olutayo Adesina, British Academy Global Professor at the University of Manchester and Professor of History at the University of Ibadan.

The event takes place in the Samuel Alexander Building on Wednesday 28 January 2026 from 4.30-6pm.
