Introducing… the SALC TLSE Enhancing Feedback Provision project

27 Oct 2025

Led by Dr David Firth, Enhancing Feedback Provision is a Faculty-funded TLSE project aimed at improving feedback practices and experiences for both students and staff across SALC. Launched in 2024-25, it supports the Faculty priority of strengthening our results in Assessment and Feedback and Student Voice.

Now entering its second year, the project has already collected a wealth of data withover 500 student survey responses and feedback from more than 60 students through focus groups and other student voice activities.

Initial findings were presented to the UG and PGT Committees in October, with further themed data and supporting resources to be shared throughout 2025-26.

David emphasised that the project’s next phase will focus on translating insights into tangible resources and training opportunities to enhance feedback provision for students and staff.

Surveys are now open for academic and PS colleagues to share their experiences of feedback. Please use the relevant link below:

Professor Camden Reeves (Director of Teaching, Learning, and Student Experience) said:  “This is a much-needed project. I am convinced this will already make a difference, I’ve learnt much from it myself as a marker and I encourage my colleagues to have a look at the findings.”

Dr Martin Parham (HCRI), a key collaborator on the project, said: “The project’s findings so far have provided so much food for thought about how we can drive our feedback processes forward and has already highlighted several changes we can make that I know will make a positive impact for students.”

David added: “It’s been a real joy to meet so many of our students and hear about the many positive experiences they’ve had on their programmes, along with their thoughtful ideas and suggestions for constructive changes. The aim – and challenge – is to now translate the project’s ongoing insights into meaningful actions and strategic improvements that widely support both students and colleagues.”

David wishes to thank all of the collaborators who have supported the project and its activities so far, including research assistant Harry Quealy (SEED), Martin Parham (HCRI), Roaa Ali Moore (AHCP), Ruth Abou Rached (MLC), Shàdy Nowrouz and the IAG team, Louise Stewart, Steph Holmes, Emma Wadsworth, Henry Evans, Hannah Cousins, Camden Reeves, and Rebecca Hodgson.

A special thanks to Adam Lyon, the School’s Senior AV Technician, who helped with the recording and editing of a series of student voice videos produced by the project.
