Faculty of Humanities Canvas update

17 Oct 2025

An update on legacy courses, adding links to lectures and making sure items are published.

Legacy courses

The previous three years of Blackboard courses have now been migrated to Canvas, with student and staff enrolments being completed earlier this week. This will allow students and staff to access materials from previous years needed for their studies after Blackboard has been switched off on Friday, 17 October. The courses are pre-fixed with the term LEGACY in the course title.

Add links to lecture recordings in your Canvas course

Lecture recording arrangements for staff remain unchanged in Canvas. Your lectures will be recorded and uploaded to the video portal, as was the case with Blackboard.

In order for students to access lecture recordings, you will need to add a link to the video portal in your Canvas course. To maintain consistency across the Faculty, you should add the video.manchester.ac.uk/lectures link to the Course Information module of the course. For guidance on how to do this, please see the ‘how-to’ instructions. You can find this guidance and much more on the Canvas Go! Site.

Make sure your items are published

If you’ve added materials to your course but students are unable to see them, it might be that the item or module hasn’t been published. You can do this easily by clicking on the icon next to the item. From here, you will be able to select ‘Publish’ and a green tick will appear.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the eLearning team.
