Writing the Camp: Remembering the voices and music of exilic Palestine

An event commemorating and marking how the cultural expressions of Palestinian exiles manage to prevail in differing times and places.

At this event, award-winning Palestinian poet Dr Yousif M. Qasmiyeh will be reading from his collection Writing The Camp, a collection of poems written an English intertwined with the voices of Palestinians living the 'in-between spaces’ of the Middle East. 

Yousif is reading for the first time in Manchester. His poems will be interpreted by Reem Anbar, the first woman oud player from Gaza, and muwashahat sung by Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies student Nour-Sima Alsabbagh. 

The readings are followed by a Q&A led by Dr Ruth Abou Rached and  Dr Anastasia Valassopoulos.
