Reward and Recognition

A Reward and Recognition group was established under the leadership of Professor Luke Georghiou, Vice-President for Research and Innovation, and Steve Mole, Director of Finance.

One of the group’s first actions to have an impact was the Thank You Scheme. As part of this scheme, any member of staff can send a simple ‘thank you’ card, either through the internal post or via email, to colleagues who have helped them – in a big or small way. Following the introduction of this quick and easy system, more than 2,000 cards have been sent so far and the scheme has been positively received by staff.

Staff can also nominate colleagues to receive a small gift for playing a part in a piece of work or going out of their way to help a fellow colleague or student. So far, gifts including chocolates, flowers and meals out have been awarded all over the University as a sign of appreciation. Staff have been particular;y pleased to receive gift vouchers.

Many areas of the University have also organised events at which they bring staff together to help build a sense of community and to thank staff for their valuable team contributions. These have been particularly successful with colleagues in the Directorate of Estates and Facilities and the Directorate for the Student Experience.
