Leadership and management

A Working Group was established led by Professor Keith Brown, Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources. Apart from feeding into the review of the P&DR process, the group is working on:

  • improving the preparation, selection, training and performance monitoring of people in leadership and management roles;
  • better preparing managers to develop key skills like holding difficult conversations effectively, managing performance, managing change and listening to and communicating with staff;

The Leadership and Development group agreed for the Staff Training and Development Unit to subscribe to an online good practice resource, The University of Manchester eMentor. This resource offers a range of best practice guides, and audio and video resources, so that people can access the tips and tools they need. This will be promoted to staff in the next few weeks.
