Honorary Appointments

These appointments allow distinguished academics from other institutions to collaborate with University employees, or recognise an ongoing association with one of our own retiring academics.

In order to be appointed as an Honorary there is a requirement that the individual must demonstrate an appropriate level of achievement in research, teaching (including clinical teaching if appropriate) or professional reputation.  It is intended, once appointed, that the Honorary should also be making, or intend to make, a significant contribution to the work of the University.

Appointees will be given a staff ID card and have membership in a School, but they are not employees and are not remunerated by the University (except travel expenses).  Appointments are usually made for three years in the first instance.

Emeritus Appointments

This title may be awarded by the President and Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Senate, to a retiring colleague who has made a distinguished contribution to the University.
