Important update: eVisas now required for UK travel – BRPs no longer valid
10 Jul 2025
Ensuring visa-holding colleagues are informed about essential updates to UK immigration and travel documentation.
If you line manage any staff who hold a UK visa, especially those in non-desk-based roles, please ensure they are aware of the following changes to UK immigration documentation.
What’s changed?
As of now, Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs), and other physical immigration documents (including vignette stickers or ink stamps in passports) can no longer be used to travel to the UK
What’s required?
All visa holders must now use an eVisa to prove their immigration status when entering the UK. This is a digital record linked to their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
Actions for visa holders:
- Create a UKVI account if they haven’t already, to access their eVisa.
- Check their eVisa is correct before travelling visit https://www.gov.uk/check-evisa
- Update their UKVI account details if needed via https://www.gov.uk/update-uk-visas-immigration-account-details
What managers should do:
- Speak directly with your team if you manage someone on a visa—especially those who may not regularly access email or internal updates.
- Encourage them to take action now to avoid travel disruption.
