Coaching and Mentoring

Coaching and mentoring are very valuable development opportunities for your team members. These development approaches can raise the confidence and capability of individuals and help you in developing talent across your team.

Coaching is not about teaching a person how to perform better in their role. It is about facilitating the development of an individual to learn, think and identify and realise potential actions for themselves. It builds greater commitment to their development plan and the change they want to see.

Mentoring is a development activity, which draws on the experience and insight of one person to the benefit of one or more other people. It is a great way to learn and share with someone who may have some of the experience you are looking for or skills you’d like to develop. A positive mentoring experience can:

  • foster self-reliance and self-confidence in the mentee and give them a belief in their own potential;
  • enables the mentee identify their own development needs and goals;
  • help the mentee write their own development plans;
  • encourage the mentee to solve problems by analysing, reflecting and enhancing their self-awareness.
