Pedagogic and Staff Development Programme launched

13 Jul 2017

The Academy for Education and Professional Development has launched its Pedagogic and Staff Development Programme to support all FBMH staff to enhance their teaching and learning.

The Programme focuses on the teaching and learning framework and is delivered monthly through face-to-face sessions, online learning and mystaffdevelopment.org.

Staff can engage with the Programme in various ways from one minute online CPD videos and Learning@lunch sessions to more in-depth masterclasses, all of which help build and develop proficiency across a range of important areas. Each month the Programme focuses on a new area and in its first two months has covered ‘Digital Literacy’ and ‘Teaching Excellence’ with the current focus being ‘Assessment and Feedback’.

The Learning@lunch sessions are valuable opportunities to hear from experts such as Stephanie Marshall (CEO Higher Education Academy) and Andrew Whitworth (Director of Teaching and Learning Strategy, Manchester Institute of Education) who both delivered thought provoking presentations that can now be accessed from mystaffdevelopment.org/.

The masterclasses are very practical in nature. For example, participants in the recent ‘Evidencing Teaching Excellence’ masterclass had the opportunity to review successful applications for teaching and learning awards (University and National), HEA fellowships, teaching and learning Promotions, Postgraduate Certificates and CHERIL funding grants. In addition, they heard from reviewers, panel members and judges as to what constitutes a successful application.

Feedback received has been very positive, with one masterclass participant describing the event as “An inspirational afternoon with the ability to explore areas in detail with experts providing support and advice – it’s got me back on track with my applications!”

Another added: “It is great to meet and hear from colleagues who are doing fantastic things elsewhere in the Faculty”.
