Cycle September

Love to Ride host a Cycle September month-long event that you can get involved in. Whether you ride your bike regularly, you haven’t in a while or you are completely new to cycling, Cycle September is for you.

Cycle September is a fun, free, and friendly biking challenge. You can ride anywhere, anytime in September to participate.

How to take part:

  • Register with Love to Ride
  • Every time you go for a bike ride, simply log it with Love to Ride in one of two ways: 
  1. Log a ride on your profile - choose how far you travelled, the date, and the purpose of your ride
  2. Connect your Strava, Map my Ride or the Love to Ride iOS app
  • You can win amazing prizes for riding and encouraging cycle use, including a £4,000 holiday, bikes, vouchers and much more.

Cycling to Work webinar, Thursday, 28 September, 12pm – 12:45pm

For colleagues who are interested in cycle commuting, but would like to find out more, we are running a webinar.

You'll hear from a range of colleagues including Julia Durkan (Environmental Sustainability Manager), Hannah Rundle (Director of Faculty Operations, Humanities), Julian Skyrme ( Director of Social Responsibility) and Cassandra Hodgkinson (Technical Operations Manager), who currently cycle to work (including on e-bikes), as well as learn about our Cycle to Work scheme and cycling facilities available on campus.

This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and pick up top tips from other cycle commuters.

While we are promoting Cycle September, cycling is an activity you can do all year round and many people choose to cycle to work. Cycling to work is great for your physical and mental health, helps reduce your travel costs to work and importantly supports a healthier environment.

Many of our colleagues are already cycle commuters and have shared some of their reflections and top tips on cycling to work:

  • Hannah Rundle, Director of Faculty Operations, Humanities commutes by e-bike and says: “It is great for my mental and physical health, builds exercise into the time I would normally spend commuting by car or train and means I do not get stuck in traffic or have to wait for delayed trains!”
  • Hawys Williams, Social Responsibility and Public Engagement Manager in FBMH, suggests using “an app like Strava to record your commute - it’s really encouraging seeing the miles adding up towards getting fitter and healthier.”
