CareerConnect: A guide for University of Manchester staff

CareerConnect is the student and Alumni Careers portal for The University of Manchester enabling current students and recent graduates to access vacancies ( oppoprtunities), events, careers appointments, online guided learning and careers resources.

Staff access

The platform is provided to University of Manchester staff (on request) in order that staff who work in support or advisory roles can provide information and advice to students. Your account is structured so that you can share screens with students without showing administrative or private information.

You will not receive full access to all aspects of CareerConnect.  If you are also a student or a recent graduate* of The University of Manchester (*within 2 years) your access will be far greater and we recommend you use this for your personal use.

  • Request staff access here (remember you must use your UoM staff email address) Your account will be inactivated if it has not been used in 24 months.

Staff can use CareerConnect to advise on

  • The range of job opportunities
  • Specific opportunities and companies of interest
  • Careers events and fairs
  • Guided learning and support Pathways that will help students to become more confident in aspects of career planning such as applying for jobs and postgraduate study.
  • Careers information and articles
  • How to book careers advice appointments

However, our website still remains the major source of information and advice for students.

Vacancies and University of Manchester Schemes

When you request your careers account or at any time thereafter, you can edit your profile in order to receive vacancy alerts via email according to your interests indicated on your occupational areas and opportunity types.

If you want to make students aware of an opportunity you cannot use the link in the alert email or directly on the register button – this is a link for you only.  You will need to open the opportunity in CareerConnect and use the LEAP or “share link“

  • It looks like this: https://careerconnect.manchester.ac.uk/leap/jobs.html?id=17961&service=Careers+Service (you can use this format but insert the relevant ID number in)

Please be aware that student’s eligibility to apply for a job may be dependent on their year or subject, not all opportunities may be shown to all students.

You can use the organisation search to see which organisations have registered with us and recent opportunities advertised and current events

Events

When you request your careers account or at any time thereafter, you can edit your profile in order to receive event alerts via email. Please note you will receive details of all events not just those relevant to your occupational and opportunity types.

You will not be able to book onto any events.

If you want to make students aware of an event you cannot use the link in the email – this is a link for you only.  You will need to open the opportunity in CareerConnect and use the LEAP or “share link“, it can be found next to the event title and looks like an arrow.

  •  It looks like this https://careerconnect.manchester.ac.uk/leap/event.html?id=2137&service=Careers%20Service   (you can use this format but insert the relevant ID number in)

Please be aware that students eligibility to attend an event may be dependent on their year or subject, not all events may be shown to all students

Pathways

Pathways are guided learning journeys through resources and tasks that will help students become confident in a range of practical skills to enable them to become career ready. They can complete the modules in their own time, and at the end of the Pathway give feedback, reflect on their learning and discover additional support.

As staff you can preview each of our Pathways, but you cannot take them yourself.

You can find the direct links to use with students on our website

Careers information and articles

The discovery feed comprises of 2 parts:

  • Articles supplied by GTI Target jobs
  • Articles supplied by The Careers Service these are displayed under Latest from the University of Manchester.

You will also see the Resources button on the top toolbar.  Limited resources are presented to staff, students will see a greater range.
