Colleagues prepare and declutter as move to Rutherford approaches
23 Mar 2026
Academics from our Geography Department are starting to prepare for their relocation from the Arthur Lewis Building to the Rutherford Building, which will take place in July.
Earlier this year, several groups of colleagues visited the Rutherford Building to see the refurbishment progressing and get a feel for their new offices. Colleagues have also been invited to see what their new work-station set up will look like and to provide information to inform seating plans.
All Geography colleagues are now being provided with a handy booklet, providing them with the information they need to prepare for their move. The booklet can be viewed online here and physical copies can be requested by emailing SEEDestates@manchester.ac.uk.
As the move gets closer, colleagues are being urged to declutter their office space, with the week commencing Monday 30th March being suggested as an ideal time for a Spring Clean. From that week onwards the Estates team will be providing larger waste and recycling bins on the first floor of the Arthur Lewis Building to enable colleagues to dispose of unwanted items. Whilst the Spring Clean is primarily aimed at Geography colleagues, other colleagues are very welcome to also join in!
Once Geography colleagues have moved out of the Arthur Lewis Building, space within that building will be re-organised, with potentially some relocation of other SEED and SoSS staff within Arthur Lewis. Full information will be provided to any affected colleagues by our Estates team by the end of May.
More information about the move to Rutherford, including options for colleagues to ask questions about the move through our Padlet, can be found on the Rutherford Relocation microsite.
