Canvas

Canvas is the Central Learning Environment (CLE) that we use to deliver our teaching, learning and assessment online. It's the place where all courses appear for you and your students. All Canvas support and latest information can be found on our Canvas Hub space.

Extended Reality and Immersive Technologies

Jonny Crook and Gary Vear lead on our service provision with using technology such as virtual reality headsets. You can find out more by visiting our XR Hub space. Read our reports to find our how other academics have used this service across the Faculty.

Audio & Video in Teaching and Learning

Gary Vear leads on the use of A/V in teaching and learning and can assist with any queries or ideas you may have in utilising these technologies within your practice. This may be embedding Canvas Studio or Box of Broadcasts as part of your resources, learning how to edit Video with Camtasia or creating subject podcasts and/or assessment screencasts for the benefit of your learners.

New Staff

Welcome to SEED and the Faculty of Humanities. We know that starting in a new role or institution can sometimes feel overwhelming so we’ve simplified some eLearning information to help you get started.

Step 1: Discover our services

The Faculty of Humanities eLearning Team provides support and services on teaching and learning related tools and approaches. We support PS and academic staff, including TAs. Some of our key services include:

  • Canvas support (for course content, activities, monitoring and assessment)
  • Online exams support
  • Learning and curriculum design support

We encourage you to explore the full range of tools, services and training available via the Humanities Teaching Academy site and the Digital Learning Support page.

Step 2: Meet the team

As part of the Faculty approach to eLearning support and development, each School has assigned eLearning team members as well as an academic eLearning Lead to ensure that our work aligns with local practices and priorities. We are always interested in finding out more about your work and how we can support you.

Peter works closely with the Director of Teaching & Learning and coordinates eLearning activity across the School.

  • Jonny Crook, Mark Lobjoit, Gary Vear: Learning Technologists

  • Jo Williams: eLearning Support Officer
Jo provides eLearning support in SEED and across the Faculty.

Step 3: Book a 1-1 with a SEED Learning Technologist

If you’d like to meet with one of the team, go through some key services and tools, and ask any initial questions, please book a 1-1 via our bookings page.

It would be helpful if you could provide a little information on your role and any initial queries in the additional information box.

Step 4: Troubleshooting

There are a number of ways to get support on any issues that might crop-up. As a first step we recommend you access our Faculty support pages to see if there are resources that can help.

If you can’t find the answer then you can either:

  • Submit a support ticket where one of the Humanities team will either triage or provide support. The tickets are monitored throughout the day so you can expect a timely response.
  • Book a 1-1 consultation (online or in-person) - these can be for either quick queries or more in-depth questions.

We encourage you to make use of these services rather than sending direct emails to the team as you’ll get a faster response due to our varied work patterns.

We look forward to supporting you in your use of technology in teaching and learning!
