Introducing the 2025/26 Canvas Excellence Student Awards!

15 Dec 2025

The Humanities eLearning team are inviting students to nominate Canvas courses that have gone the extra mile this year.

The Humanities eLearning team are inviting students to nominate Canvas courses they have been taught on during the 2025/26 academic year for the first Canvas Excellence Student Awards – a student-nominated awards night for staff to celebrate excellent practice in Canvas.

Moving to Canvas has been a huge shift for both staff and students and we want to celebrate the Canvas courses that have gone the extra mile to inspire, connect and organise your students online.

With support from students across the Faculty, we have co-created a criterion of what opportunities for ‘excellence’ can look like in Canvas based on what matters to their experience the most.

Students can nominate a course for the following categories:

  • Structure and design: how the course is organized, how visual elements are used, how easy it is to navigate to materials and support, and how clear the guidance is
  • Digital proficiency: how well staff have used the digital tools and Canvas features available to them and how they have created opportunities for students to develop digital skills
  • Student development: how student community, employability and equality, and diversity and inclusion have been considered in the development of the course, and how the digital space might be preparing students for the workplace
  • Best Canvas course – the best overall Canvas experience

You can be submitted for more than one award, and a student can make more than one nomination for different courses. By submitting a nomination, students are entered into a raffle where three students will win a £50 Amazon voucher. Any duplicate raffle entries for the same course will not be considered.

Students can submit nominations by completing this form and the deadline to nominate is Thursday, 9 April at 9am.

Our shortlisted nominees will be invited to the Canvas Excellence Student Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 30 April 2026. This will be part of Focus on Digital Learning week, a week celebrating good digital practice across the faculty. At the award ceremony, winners will be presented with a trophy and door plaque celebrating their achievement and food and drink will be provided.

If you would like to get involved, please contact Adelaide.marshall@manchester.ac.uk.

Any feedback we receive from students will be anonymised and forwarded to the relevant colleagues if requested. The nominations and subsequent feedback are only for the Canvas Excellence Student Awards and are not affiliated with any other student feedback surveys.
