Volunteers are required to participate in a research study investigating the bacteria present in the skin.
Sampling will include swabbing different skin sites (Volar forearm, Scalp, Forehead, and toe web) to collect the bacteria naturally growing at these body sites. You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire asking for details of your age, sex, ethnicity, and mode of delivery.
The process is estimated to take approximately 20 minutes, and no further participation is required. This investigation has been granted ethical approval by the University of Manchester Research Ethics Committee.
You are under no obligation to participate; however, if you are interested and fulfill our inclusion criteria (please see below), please contact me, and you will be provided with a participant information leaflet outlining the study.
Inclusion/Exclusion criteria:
We are looking for healthy adult volunteers who are:
- Over the age of 18 and under the age of 65
- Have not applied large doses of commercial probiotics consumed topically currently (greater than or equal to 108 CFU organisms per day as indicated by the product labeling. Please note ordinary dietary components, such as fermented beverages, milks, and yogurt, do NOT apply.
- Not currently taking antibiotics or have taken antibiotics in the past 6 months.
- Not currently using or have used topical antimicrobials in the past 7 days.
- Not currently experiencing or have experienced skin infection in the past 6 weeks.
- Not diagnosed with diabetes
- Not washing hair and body in the last 24 hours
