Guidelines for recruiting research volunteers

These guidelines have been put together to help you to recruit volunteers for research studies.

How to advertise online

You can advertise for volunteers via the student intranet - My Manchester; and the staff intranet - StaffNet.

To submit an advertisement for volunteers you must use the Volunteering Opportunity Submission page.

What to include

When submitting information it is essential that you send exactly the same information/text which was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee (REC) which approved your research project.

If the information you include is different to that which you have submitted to the REC, your submission may be deemed invalid and the approval granted by the REC may no longer stand.  This could leave you open to civil action if your advertisement is deemed to be misleading any way.

Checking procedure

The details which you provide will be checked against the information contained in your REC submission.  If any issues arise at the checking stage, your submission will be returned to you for amendment.  You will be expected to make the recommended changes and resubmit your information.

This will obviously slow down the process of getting your advertisement online, so it's best to make sure the information you submit first time round is accurate.

All submissions are checked manually against your REC submission and every effort will be made to ensure that your volunteering opportunity appears on StudentNet/StaffNet as soon as possible.

Emails to staff and students

As well as appearing on My Manchester/StaffNet, a regular weekly email will be sent to students highlighting the volunteering opportunities available.  A link to the research volunteering website will also be included in the weekly eUpdate which reaches all University staff with access to email.

Do not post to:

Please do not also post your volunteering opportunity to any of the following as it will be rejected/disregarded:

  • Any moderated email group ie: MANCHESTER-STUDENTS, MANCHESTER-STAFF, etc
  • Staff or student Message of the Day services
  • StaffNet News submission form
  • uninews@manchester.ac.uk
