TUC March on Wednesday 30 November

29 Nov 2011

The march will pass down Oxford Road, ending at Whitworth Park, and will have an impact on roads and public transport.

The University has been informed by Greater Manchester Police that the Manchester march planned as part of the TUC Day of Action for next Wednesday 30 November 2011 will pass down Oxford Road and will end at Whitworth Park.

The march will set off from Liverpool Road at 11.30am and will pass through the city centre (Deansgate, John Dalton Street, Princess Street, Portland Street, Oxford Street), before proceeding down Oxford Road and turning right on Denmark Road to assemble at Whitworth Park for speeches from 12.30pm onwards.

Staff and students should expect a degree of congestion and inconvenience when the main body of the march passes through the campus (using just one side of the dual carriageway on Oxford Road) roughly between 12 noon and 1pm.

The Greater Manchester Police have advised the University that they consider the march to be “low risk”, but we will be deploying security and house services staff at the entrances to some buildings which open onto Oxford Road and it may be necessary, for health and safety reasons, to control access to some of these buildings for a brief period of time.

We apologise in advance for any disruption to normal arrangements and routines.
