WATCH: University and SU leaders host open meeting on free speech

The open meeting on free speech took place on Monday 8 April 2024.

The event was hosted by Aisha Akram, Wellbeing and Liberation Officer at the Students’ Union, and was an opportunity to discuss freedom of speech on campus and for students to put questions to senior University leaders.

In attendance was Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice-President for Social Responsibility, Mark Rollinson, Deputy Secretary - Governance and Legal Affairs, Sinead Hesp, Director of Legal Affairs, and Hannah Mortimer, Union Affairs Officer at the Students' Union.

A comment received at the end of the meeting said: “I have to say this was the best session on a really challenging area I have ever heard at an institution. Balanced, nuanced, informative. Please continue the great work, it is appreciated.”
