Recycle unwanted IT kit during the Amnesty Week

09 Apr 2024

In support of the University’s commitment to a zero carbon future, IT Services are holding an IT Kit Amnesty running from Monday 15 April to Friday 19 April.

During the week, you can drop-off any unwanted electronic devices, equipment, and peripherals, whether it is personal property or the University’s. No data on the devices will be looked at, and the devices will be handled securely and anonymously until their data is wiped or destroyed. The kit will be dealt with in the most appropriate sustainable way: Reused, repurposed, or recycled through our partner Stone Group.

Drop off points

These will be available from 9am – 4pm at various locations across the campus:

  • Monday 15 to Friday 19 April: Kilburn Building ground floor foyer
  • Monday 15 to Friday 19 April: Main Library ground floor foyer
  • Monday 15 April: University Place foyer
  • Tuesday 16 April: Students' Union ground floor
  • Wednesday 17 April: Fallowfield Campus central reception
  • Thursday 18 April: Stopford Building ground floor foyer
  • Friday 19 April: Engineering Building A Event Space B (ground floor foyer)

What you can drop off

You can donate a range of old equipment, including:

  • Laptops
  • Desktop computers
  • Screens/Monitors
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets/iPads
  • Game consoles: PlayStation, Xbox
  • Game controllers and game pads
  • Mobile gaming devices: Switch, 3DS
  • Computer accessories: monitor/screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers
  • Computer parts
  • Laptop batteries
  • Docking stations
  • Cables and leads
  • Memory sticks and external drives
  • Printers

Please note

  • IT Services can’t take devices that are badly broken, but cracks and chips are okay.
  • If you’re handing over an Apple device make sure you’ve logged out of it. This will allow working devices to be wiped and re-used.

Did you know that owning and using electronic devices is a contributor to everyone’s carbon footprint? Recycling your old kit with us is just one way we can all do our bit to achieve our sustainability commitments. For more ideas check out the University’s Sustainability Action Month.
