Engagement@Manchester looks at working with young people

10 Jan 2013

The next meeting will take place on 16 January (1-2pm), Kanaris Lecture Theatre, The Manchester Museum.

Engagement@Manchester runs a series of lunchtime meetings exploring different aspects of public engagement. All university staff and students are welcome to attend and find out more.

You will have the opportunity to find out about the vast range of different ways in which our institution works with schools and young people; hear 3 case studies from colleagues from across the University, and have the chance to network with other staff and students interested in this aspect of public engagement to explore how you can take ideas forward.  The speakers are as follows:

Stephanie Lee, Undergraduate Recruitment and Widening Participation Manager

Stephanie will give an insight into the wide range of activities coordinated by the central UG Recruitment and WP team working with schools, colleges and young people both locally and nationally - and give examples of how staff and students from academic schools can get involved.

Sarah Kerton, Access Coordinator, University of Manchester Students’ Union

Sarah will explore how the Students’ Union empowers students at Manchester to run and develop their own projects with young people in the local community, through Student Action, Access All Areas and 250+ student-led societies.

Dr Karen Lander, Senior Lecturer, School of Psychological Sciences

Karen will be speaking about the School of Psychological Sciences Outreach Group – which is a mix of Academic Staff, Post Docs and Students who are all involved with the organisation and delivery of a variety of events engaging young people; including the Success4Life Project, Big Brain Summer School and “What do Psychological Scientists do?!”.

We hope you’re able to join us for our first meeting of 2013 – please tell colleagues who may also be interested in attending.
