Life-saving equipment on campus

28 Aug 2012

Information and awareness session about locating and using defibrillators on 3 September (1.30pm) in Lecture Theatre 3, Kilburn Building.

using a defibrillator

Two more Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have been purchased: one by the School of Computer Science which has been located in the Porters' Lodge in Kilburn Building, and another by Maintenance Services which is located at Reception in the Whitworth Art Gallery. This brings the number of AEDs on campus to 14.

An AED is a very simple piece of equipment that can be used by anyone to greatly increase the chances of saving the life of someone who has collapsed in cardiac arrest. AEDs are already available to the public in places such as Piccadilly Station, the Trafford Centre, the Arndale Centre and Manchester Airport, and having them in Kilburn Building and other areas of the University is a really positive thing for the health and well-being of all university staff, students and visitors.

Janet Makin, the University First Aid Coordinator, will be holding an awareness and information session on AEDs in Lecture Theatre 1.3, Kilburn building at 1.30pm on Monday 3 September which all staff are invited to attend. The session will last approximately an hour.
