Background

Imaging of the lung is commonly used in the assessment of conditions such as pulmonary embolism, lung malignancies and COPD. However, the range of imaging methods used in the routine assessment of lung disease is limited in comparison with other organs and disease areas. At the same time there is a need for improved lung diagnostic tests and methods for monitoring the effects of therapy.

This symposium will provide an overview of some of the challenges facing clinicians in the use of lung imaging and some of the new imaging technologies being developed and applied in Manchester to further the capabilities of biomedical imaging in this area.
