Professor Richard Whitley’s Retirement Celebration

19 Jan 2011

Invitation to events on 27 and 28 January 2011 in MBS

You are invited to join international scholars and members of the University in a celebration of Richard Whitley’s contribution to scholarship and education in business, management and comparative political economy during his 42 years at Manchester Business School.

Thursday 27 January - Plenary (4.30 pm)

Following refreshments at 4.30pm, MBS is hosting a plenary talk to be given by Professor Hari Tsoukas of Warwick Business School and the University of Cyprus (see below for biographical details) and outgoing editor of the Journal Organization Studies, on the  theme:

  • ‘If you don't compare, you don't understand’: The scholarly and intellectual contributions of Professor Richard Whitley

The session will be chaired by Professor Rod Coombs, Deputy Vice Chancellor of The University of Manchester, and followed by a wine reception at around 6 pm (venue details will be confirmed in January).

Both the plenary and the wine reception are open to all members of staff. It would be helpful to have an idea of the likely numbers at the plenary and the wine reception, so if you wish to attend, please inform:

Following the wine reception, we have booked dinner at a restaurant in town and members of staff from MBS and other areas of the University are welcome to come along (the cost to University of Manchester staff will be £25 plus drinks.) Anyone wishing to attend the dinner should register with Sue Haffner by Friday 21 January.
