WE WANT YOUR CUP!

14 May 2010

Collecting all disposable cups on campus throughout May

disposable cups

The disposable cups that we use all across campus for (usually hot) drinks cannot  be recycled. This may come as some surprise. What's even more shocking is that, as a university, we get through more than 100,000 a month!

So, throughout the month of May, WE WANT YOUR CUP are attempting to collect all disposable cups on campus so that we can see how much non-recylable waste we don't need to be making. The project is part of a wider initiative to get people thinking about more sustainable methods of consumption. After all, it's not necessarily what you consume, it's how you consume that matters. The alternative to using a disposable cup is both easy and simple: bring in your own mug!

The collected cups will be transformed into a 3D art installation that you'll be able to look at and walk in and around at PANGEA.

All you need to do is put any empty cup you have or come across into one of the cup disposal bins that you'll be able to find in the following locations:

  • Library Lounge
  • Lime Cafe (Samuel Alexander Building)
  • Pi in the Sky cafe (Alan Turing Building)
  • Byte Cafe (Kilburn Building)
  • Stopford Coffee Bar (Stopford Building)
  • Error Bar (Schuster Building)
  • Potter's (Simon Building)
  • Cafe 2o4 (Chemistry Building)
  • UMSU

Get involved and contribute your cup (or better still, bring in your own mug!)
