Important information from IT Services

We are aware of a number of reported virus attacks which may be triggered by downloading from a pop up message from various sites.

Do NOT click to accept this download (if you do, it will disable your existing anti-virus software and compromise your control over your internet browser, taking you to illicit websites).

Instead:

  • Press the CTRL-ALT-DELETE keys simultaneously
  • Click the task list button from the Novell menu to bring up the Task Manager
  • In the Applications tab of the Windows Task manager, select the suspicious message from the list, and click 'End Task'
  • Please report the incident to the ServiceDesk

Ensure your anti-virus software is up to date - Version 8.7i.

If your software is not up to date, install the latest updates from:

Step 1: Select the link 'Installer for VirusScan 8.7i' to download and install McAfee VirusScan software.

Step 2: Select 'perpetual' licence expiry type from the installation options.

For standard desktop users, your desktop will automatically update to the latest version.

We are investigating the root cause of this attack as a matter of urgency and we will provide an update in due course.
