Team up for this year's Dragon Boat Race!

01 Apr 2009

Recruit a crew for the 38th Two Cities Boat Race on 10 May

The 38th Two Cities Boat Race between the universities of Manchester and Salford, will be on Sunday 10 May this year at Salford Quays, and up to date information on the event is to be found at:

Once again, the morning of that day will be taken up with fantastic Dragon Boat racing, an ancient Chinese tradition demanding teamwork and a competitive spirit, and resulting in a great fun day out for everyone whilst collecting lots of cash for charity - this year our charity is once again SPARKS (Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids).

If you think that paddling in a Dragon Boat sounds like a good way to spend a couple of hours outdoors in May, then you're right! The trick is to convince other people that you are right too. When you begin to talk to your friends, colleagues, neighbours and family about joining the team, please stress to them that the purpose for paddling is to have FUN working as a team!! Last year we had 16 boats entered, and this year we are aiming to double it!

If you rowed last year, tell them what a great time you had! Start your recruitment early! Filling a boat requires 16 people to paddle, and someone crazy to drum or scream (whichever is their preference, as long as they have some sort of rhythm), and a perhaps it might be good to have a few people to act as spares (a steersman and life jackets are provided). Fancy dress or team strip is not compulsory, but looks great on the day, and try to dream up an inspiring name for your team.

By all means contact us and let us know that you are getting a team together, but please note that this year, in order to register, we require a 10 per cent non-returnable deposit. Without this, you do not have a boat (this is due to a lot of cancellations in previous years). Final payment of the total fee is due by 30 April at the latest.

The total cost of a staff boat is £1000.00 - just £58.80 sponsorship per person.
