The Cockcroft Rutherford Lecture and Dinner on 12 June.

Lecture for alumni and staff by Professor Robert Putnam.

The Cockcroft Rutherford Lecture and Dinner, which is organised by the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, will be held on Thursday 12 June.

The lecture will be presented by Professor Robert Putnam, Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and Visiting Professor and Director of the Graduate Programme in Social Change at The University of Manchester.

The lecture is entitled 'E Pluribus Unum: Diversity and Community in the 21st Century'. In his lecture, Professor Putnam will argue that immigration and diversity offer long term benefits but pose short term challenges to social cohesion.

The lecture will be held at University Place at 6.15pm, with tea and coffee available from 5.30pm. Following the lecture there will be an optional drinks reception and dinner which will be hosted by the President and Vice Chancellor Professor Alan Gilbert.

The lecture is free to attend, but you will require a ticket. The dinner is priced at £28 per person.
