Three academics from The University of Manchester have been nominated as Great Britons.

Morgan Stanley Great Britons is an annual awards programme that recognises and celebrates outstanding British achievement over the past year.

Palaeontologist Dr Phil Manning and particle physicist Dr Brian Cox have been nominated in the science and innovation category, while Dr Philip Martin has been put forward in the environment category.

Members of the public have been encouraged to nominate their Morgan Stanley Great Britons 2007 through:

Shortlist Judging Panels, who are experts in their field, will select a shortlist prior to the Final Judging Panel selecting the overall winners of each category.

The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony held in central London in January.
