Additional safety measures on campus

20 Jun 2023

Updated 20 June 2023, 11am:

This temporary disruption to the fire alarm monitoring signal has now been restored by Estates and ITS colleagues. You no longer need to call Campus Support and Security upon hearing the fire alarm, as the usual automatic notification is now operational again. If you notice a fire or hear the fire alarm, please follow the normal procedures.

-----

The connection between building fire alarms and Campus Security is being affected by the current cyber incident. All fire alarms are fully functional and are being continually monitored by Campus Security & Support through an alternative system, but we are putting in additional measures to ensure everyone’s health and safety. We have additional Security staff deployed 24/7 in some buildings as an interim measure and Campus Security & Support have also increased foot patrols.

If you spot a fire, please follow the normal procedure of pressing the red break glass activation boxes. In addition to this please then notifying Campus Security & Support by phone on 0161 306 9966.

Due to the diverse nature of the type of work activities (and therefore risks) across the faculties and established local mitigations, local management should satisfy themselves that lone working arrangements (both out of hours and during normal working hours) remain effective.

All colleagues are asked to be additionally vigilant over the weekend and out of hours.
