Sign up to attend our inclusive learning workshops

23 Jun 2021

The Institute of Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Directorate of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, invites staff involved in the delivery of teaching and learning to a series of inclusive learning workshops

Looking at inclusive practices from across the higher education sector and beyond, these workshops will discuss what inclusive learning and teaching should look like at Manchester. Each session will offer participants an opportunity to critically reflect on their own teaching and consider ways of implementing inclusive practice going forward. The input and sharing of experience amongst colleagues is vital as the series moves towards the start of an inclusive teaching framework.

Workshops

A series of approximately eight workshops will take place, two have already taken place and five more are currently scheduled. Staff are welcome to attend as many or as few as they wish.

The following workshops will be lunchtime practitioner-led sessions, each approximately 40 minutes long. These will focus on one or more of the themes identified by colleagues in the opening session.

  • Wednesday, 7 July – Inclusive Curriculum (Dr Susie Miles, Dr Debbie Ralls and Mukuma Kawesha) 12:00 – 12:40
  • Friday, 9 July – Inclusive Teaching Practice (Dr Daniella Ryding and Mr Stephen Doyle) 12:00 – 12:40
  • Monday, 12 July - Inclusive Feedback (Dr Nick Weise) 12:00 – 12:40
  • Tuesday, 13 July - Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment (Dr Holly Morse) 12:00 – 12:40

The closing workshop of the series will be held on Thursday, 15 July (15:15 – 16:45) and co-delivered by Professor Judy Williams (Associate Vice President and Director, Institute of Teaching and Learning) and Mehrunnisa Lalani (Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion).

Who can attend?

The sessions are fully inclusive and open to all colleagues who are interested in attending. We welcome postgraduate and undergraduate students who are interested in these areas to join and participate fully in these sessions.

I am interested in a session but have a prior commitment

This is a busy period for staff and students alike. A number of asynchronous resources will be available for everybody to continually contribute useful resources and examples of good practice.

We have created a Padlet to complement discussions had within the workshops. Even if you cannot attend any of the workshops, you are invited to contribute and help make this a resource that will benefit colleagues across the University. This will remain live throughout the series.
