Help needed from Supervisors of Research Council-funded PhDs

16 Feb 2007

Local UK GRADschool fulfils Research Council development requirements

The UK GRADschools have long been recognised as an extremely beneficial addition to the personal and professional development of research postgraduates. The Research Councils recommend that all of their funded PhDs attend a session once during their second or third years of study.

But did you know that the Graduate Development Scheme of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences runs the only accredited local GRADschool at the University that fulfils this requirement? See the description at:

The aim of the workshop is to develop teamwork and project planning skills through team-based exercises with a particular focus on long term time management and project planning skills. The benefits of your student attending this local course is that it is three days and non-residential, compared to the national courses which are often five days and residential, requiring a bigger time committment away from the University.

All postgrads from across the University who are funded by one of the UK Research Councils (either directly or via a project grant to their supervisor), the Wellcome Trust or via a Doctoral Training Account grant are eligible. The funding comes from a separate Research Council source and does not affect the student grant in any way.

The course will be run twice in 2007:

Session 1: Tuesday 27 March to Thursday 29 March 2007

Session 2: Tuesday 19 June to Thursday 21 June 2007

Venue: Maths and Social Sciences Tower, Sackville Street Area, The University of Manchester

Please have your student email eps-grads@manchester.ac.uk to book a place by quoting either their Research Council student number (in the format '99123456' if they have one), or else if funded from a Research Project or DTG, the DTG/research grant number (which will be in the format GR/P12345/01 for EPSRC).
