Online Fair sees spike in volunteering applications

29 Oct 2020

The University’s Volunteering & Social Justice Fair Online inspires students to continue making a difference

Volunteering Fair

The University of Manchester’s Volunteering Team hosted their very first digital version of the annual Volunteering and Social Justice Fair last week (20 – 22 October).

Despite redesigning the event to be online, the fair continued to provide the same valuable opportunity to bring communities, organisations and students together. Over 750 students attended and over 500 applications to volunteer have since been made to organisations via Volunteer Hub. Recognising that community volunteering is now more important than ever, the team’s online fair has continued to link students to hundreds of socially-distanced and remote volunteer opportunities.

Over 60 different organisations hosted Zoom sessions at the digital fair from a wide range of sectors including cultural, environmental, health, sport and social inclusion - both from the wider community and within the University and Students’ Union. Each organisation provided a different way for students to meet new people, explore their community and play a role in tackling local and global social justice issues.

We want to thank everyone who helped to promote the fair to make it a success. If you know students who missed it, they can still get involved with hundreds of volunteering opportunities by registering on Volunteer Hub
