Martin Harris Centre: This week's events and future highlights.

Our new brochure has just been published and has been distributed around the University - please make sure you pick one up and check out the full range of diverse and exciting events planned for the coming months. Highlights include:

  • two visits from the BBC Philharmonic Chamber;
  • a new batch of Literature Live events, including authors Hanif Kureishi, Clare Wigfall and Helen Dunmore, among many others;
  • Quatuor Danel continue their season of free lunchtime concerts;
  • The University of Manchester Drama Society present their production of 1984 in March.

This week's events include a FREE lunchtime concert in the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall - Simon Parkin and Hannah Roberts present the first of two concerts to mark the approach of Elliott Carter's one hundredth birthday, combining one of his early masterpieces with the lush romantic sound world of fellow American Samuel Barber. The concert starts at 1.10pm on Thursday 31 January.

Also next week The University of Manchester Sinfonietta present pieces by Strauss, Barber and Beethoven, again in the Cosmo Rodewald Hall on Saturday 2 February at 7pm. The concert features Catherine Price and Davina Clarke.

Next week the first of this season's two visits from the BBC Philharmonic Chamber Concert. Gianandrea Noseda, Chief Conductor introduces Principal players with Panufnik's concertino for timpani, percussion and piano (four hands) - don't miss this very special event on Wednesday 6 February at 7pm.
