The 10,000 Actions Programme gives all staff the opportunity to engage in collective, measurable action on environmental sustainability

Since November 2016, all staff have been given the opportunity to learn about the key issues of sustainability such as travel, responsible purchasing and energy, and the actions they can take to make a big difference through an innovative online tool.

Our aim was to create more than 10,000 actions on environmental sustainability. We are pleased to say that over 20,000 actions have already been pledged and we are already seeing staff logging back in to say that they have been completing their actions.

However, we want to make more of a difference and you can still play a part. We would like as many people as possible to have created their personal action plan by Tuesday, 31 January although this programme will continue to run supporting environmental sustainability across the University.

The table below shows the percentage of staff making their own individual action plan in different parts of the University.

10,000 Actions
Area % rate
University 15
Professional Support Services 29
Library and Public Institutions 16
Humanities 13
Science and Engineering 9
Biology, Medical and Health 7

Congratulations to the Division of Communications and Marketing for becoming the first area to reach 100% of all staff having made their own environmental sustainability action plan. We are really pleased with the engagement in the programme and what it will mean for the University.

In addition, during January, local artist Hammo, will choose a 10,000 Actions tweet every week to illustrate. By sharing your action on Twitter using #10000Actions you could win some personalised artwork too.
