Take a break at the Carer Café

25 May 2016

Be part of national Carers’ Week here at the University

Staff and colleagues from the Cancer, Supportive and Palliative Research Group (SUPAC) based at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, are hosting a Carer Café information sharing event on Monday, 6 June as part of the national Carers Week programme of events.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year the focus is on building Carer Friendly Communities. Communities which support carers to look after their family or friends well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.

The event will run from noon to 3pm and be held in room G.306B in Jean McFarlane building.

This series of drop-in sessions includes:

  • 12-12.30pm and 2-3pm: tea and biscuits, charity cake sale with proceeds going to Manchester Carers forum and Bury Carers Centre, and a carers’ information stand including information on local services and sources of support for carers.
  • 12.30pm-1pm: Greg Pass from Human Resources will be giving a talk on what policies are in place within the University to help staff members who are carers themselves.
  • 1-2pm: series of short talks including personal experiences and an overview of work from around the University that has been conducted with carers.

Join us in an informal atmosphere to build a stronger carer community here at the University.
