The Ede & Ravenscroft Prize 2015: two winners recognised

21 Mar 2016

Two students participating in the 2015 Student Experience Internship (SEI) programme have been recognised for going the extra mile during their summer internship last year

This month saw them being awarded their graduation package courtesy of a donation from graduation gown suppliers, Ede & Ravenscroft. The two winners were:

  • Joshua Hayes (MPhys), Physics Outreach and Engagement Intern with the School of Physics & Astronomy, who recruited around 50 students to participate in a science-busking event  run throughout the city and the British Science Festival Fringe. His manager, Dr Emma Nichols, stated, “Josh’s ambition, enthusiasm for and commitment to the project has been fantastic, and what he’s accomplished in a short space of time has gone far beyond anything I could have expected”.
  • Iona McKenzie-Jones (BSc Business Management), a Student Development Intern in the Teaching & Learning Support Office, who spent her summer making the Student Charter a “live” document by identifying ways in which the charter could be put into practice across discipline areas. Iona’s manager, Will Carey, stated “Iona was outstanding in her commitment to her project, dedication to driving it forward and the outputs she secured made an unexpected and significant impact.”

The judging panel of Dr Tim Westlake, Dr Paul Redmond and Tammy Goldfeld identified the two winners amongst 30 nominated students from an original pool of 77 who took part in the SEI programme last summer.
