Mansfield Cooper Building update

11 May 2015

The Mansfield Cooper Building will re-open at 9am on Tuesday, 12 May for staff and students, but unfortunately there will be no disabled access until further notice

The area where the ceiling collapse has occurred will be completely cordoned off and users of the building will be able to access rooms, offices, the Library etc without needing to enter the affected area.

The main entrance doors will be closed and visitors will be re-directed, by security and signage, to an alternative entrance at the rear of the building. This provides the most effective access to the remaining parts of the building via the rear stairwell.

The ramped entrance to the side of the building will be used by the contractors carrying out remedial works, thereby clearly demarcating/separating the passage of staff and students from the contractors.

Exams have been cleared from the building and no further use of the ground floor lecture theatres will be authorised until after the beginning of June.

In the meantime, the building's major use will be for staff and students wishing to access the computer clusters, library and any PhD facilities.

It is anticipated that disabled access will only be suspended for a further day or so. A further announcement will be made about this.
